Ammanford 11 Amman United 20

Lloyds TSB National League Div 5 (West)

In their last home game of the season, Ammanford, who were without several key players, were forced to surrender as the visitors came out on top in something of a drab local derby.

The Amman drew first blood when outside-half Adrian Thomas put over a 30m penalty.

The home side drew level through outside-half Simon Davies who slotted a 35m penalty but the Amman pack kept up the pressure and Thomas put over another penalty to re-take the lead.

Davies quickly replied with a snap drop goal but his side suffered a huge loss when powerful centre Rob Petrychen had to lead the field with a cut head and captain Simon Davies soon followed with a groin injury.

In a very poor first half Ammanford, in their first concentrated attack, scored an excellent try with scrum-half Ioan Jones going over on the blind side of a scrum from 30m out which somehow gave them an 11-6 half-time lead after the Amman had controlled at least 80 percent of the possession.

The game continued in the same vein in the second half with both sides making many basic errors. Ammanford were again hit by injuries, losing hooker Jason Rosser and prop Rhodri Hynd, but the Amman were now firmly in control up front and kept the home side penned in their own 22. The Amman pack eventually drove over from a line out near the corner flag, with scrum-half Ryan Williams touching down. Thomas' conversion gave them an 11-13 lead.

With time running out another surge by the visiting pack saw Karl Worsfold driven over for their second try. Thomas' conversion sealed the match and brought to an end something of a damp squib.
