THESE seven locals have had their cases heard in court recently.

The defendants were accused of speeding, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, and keeping a vehicle that did not meet insurance requirements.

Their cases were among several heard in the magistrates' courts in Merthyr Tydfil, Cardiff, and Bristol.

Here's a round-up of the cases.

Angharad Peregrine, 39, of Parc Penrhiw, Betws, Ammanford, pleaded guilty to speeding in a 20mph limit.

Peregrine was fined £40 at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates’ Court and was ordered to pay a £16 victim surcharge and £130 in costs. She also had three points added to her licence.

Stephen Williams, 36, of Office Row, Ystalyfera, was dealt with at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court for speeding in a 50mph limit.

He was fined £220 and received three points on his driving licence. He was also ordered to pay an £88 victim surcharge. 

William Davies, 32, of Clos Nant Ddu, Ynysmeudwy, Pontardawe, was sentenced at Cardiff Magistrates' Court for speeding in a 20mph limit.

He received a £330 fine and three penalty points, and was ordered to pay a £132 victim surcharge. 

Connor Coleman, 35, of Cross Street, Pontarddulais, was sentenced at Bristol Magistrates' Court for speeding in a temporary 50mph limit on a motorway.

He pleaded guilty and was fined £246, ordered to pay £120 in costs and a £98 victim surcharge. His licence was endorsed with three penalty points.

Lisa Jones, 38, of Varteg Road, Ystalyfera, faced a charge of using a motor vehicle on a public road without insurance.

She was dealt with at Cardiff Magistrates' Court and fined £660, with her licence endorsed with six penalty points.

Jones was also ordered to pay a £264 victim surcharge.

Mark Jeffery, 59, of Pont Aur, Ystradgynlais, was sentenced at Cardiff Magistrates' Court for driving without a valid licence.

He was fined £220 and handed three penalty points, as well as being ordered to pay £120 costs and an £88 surcharge.

Samuel Ryan Clarkson, 30, of Brynamman Road, Lower Brynamman, faced a charge of keeping a vehicle that did not meet insurance requirements.

He was fined £220 and ordered to pay £100 in costs at Cardiff Magistrates' Court, as well as an £88 victim surcharge.
