A MAN threatened to “send the boys round” after crashing into two vans and an SUV belonging to his neighbours.

Dennis Clayton, 56, from Pontarddulais smashed his father’s Dacia Duster into three parked vehicles in the town after snorting cocaine.

When he was confronted by the victims, who tried to take the key from the ignition, he made a serious of bizarre threats as he tried to make a getaway.

“He appeared to be intoxicated and was slurring his words,” Alexandra Wilson, prosecuting, told Swansea Crown Court.

“The defendant was trying to drive off.”

She said that Clayton had said to them: “I’ve been in prison for 15 years for manslaughter and I will be going back because of you.

“I’m going to get all the boys down from Manchester – I know where you live.

“I’m in the SAS and I will take you all out – I don’t give a f***!”

He then went on to claim his daughter had been kidnapped and was being held at gunpoint.

Clayton had crashed into a Volkswagen Transporter van, a Ford Transit van and an Audi Q3 SUV after taking his father’s car without permission.

The defendant has never passed his driving test and was uninsured to drive the Duster.

Clayton, of Trinity Close, Pontarddulais admitted dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, making threatening words/behaviour, criminal damage, driving with no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

The incident took place at around 4pm on Monday, August 25.

He has 30 previous convictions for 104 offences with nine being for either drink or drug driving.

Clayton’s lawyer Andrew Evans told the court that his client had moved to the area to look after his elderly father.

Judge Paul Thomas KC replied: “Well, he’s made quite an impression with the neighbours!”

The defendant was clean of drink and drugs since being held in custody following his arrest, Mr Evans, added, and was “extremely remorseful”.

Judge Thomas said the offences were so serious that only an immediate prison sentence could be justified.

The defendant was jailed for 15 months and banned from driving for three years following his release from custody.
