AN AMMANFORD nail salon has been cordoned off after a fire ripped through the building on Saturday.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson asked for people to avoid the area as firefighters tackled the blaze throughout the day.
“Emergency services are dealing with an incident on College Street Ammanford, close to the square,” the spokesperson said.
“Please avoid the area and find alternative routes for your journey. Thank you.”
Sophia Nails confirmed that a fire had broken out in the flat above their shop.
“Fire at the flat of our shop,” a statement read on the salon’s Facebook page on Saturday.
“We have to close the shop today. Please contact with us to reschedule appointment. So sorry for this inconvenience. Thanks so much for always support us.”
A number of fire crews attended the incident, with the firefighters using an aerial ladder platform to help them battle the fire.
On Sunday morning, the building was cordoned off with the extent of the damage caused by the fire visible from the street.
A statement from Sophia Nails said all appointments at the salon would be cancelled for the next week.
“Dear clients, we’re sorry about cancelling all the appointments today and next week. We’ll contact you soon to reschedule appointments,” it read.
“The fire this morning has damaged our salon a lot. We may have to close for 1-2 weeks for repairs. Once we have any news we will update on Facebook/Insta ASAP. Once again, we are very sorry for this inconvenience.”
A statement from neighbouring business Bangin’ Street Food said they were awaiting a safety inspection by the fire service on Monday.
“Managed to get into the shop late yesterday afternoon and got most of the water out and mopped up,” it read.
“The buildings now have barriers up to ensure everybody is kept safe due to the state of the roof above.
“We will be keeping our fingers crossed that all will be safe to proceed with the clear up and making safe of the roof.
“Thank you all for your support and kind words in these difficult times.”
