Cwmamman United 0 Dinas Powys 2

Cwmamman United went down to a disappointing home defeat to Dinas Powys in a game where all the early signs had showed that a home win was on the cards.

In the first 15 minutes, Calem Rees saw two shots go just wide of the Dinas Powys post while an in-swinging corner hit the bar at the top of the post.

Kyle Ashford was causing a lot of problems with his aggressive running at the defence and Ross Morgan who was linking the midfield well saw a long range shot dip at the last minute and hit the bar with Phillips the Powys keeper stranded.

Then disaster struck in the 27th minute as some hesitancy saw the ball fall behind the Cwm defence to the unmarked Sam Roberts who calmly slotted home.

A calm Cwm defence that had been in control now suddenly looked a bit jittery with the Rooks gaining in confidence by the minute.

Cwm would have hoped to see themselves settle quickly in the second half but while Cory Saunders and Leon Croucher worked hard to launch attacks with Morgan, Ashford and Rees industrious in the middle there was little being created in the final third to hurt the opposition.

The second and killer goal came in the 80th minute as Luke Birnage punished the failure of Cwm to clear a high cross.

Over that last 25 minutes with Cwm trying to chase the game Kai Rees made a series of outstanding saves for Cwm that prevented a higher defeat and kept Cwm hoping and involved until the end.

However, the game ended with Dinas Powys in the ascendancy and a deserving three points.

This Saturday, Cwmamman play Abertillery Bluebirds of the South East League in the Ardal South Cup at Grenig Park 2.30pm.
