AFC Llwydcoed 2 Cwmamman Utd 1

Cwmamman United’s new young team will have come away from this match and wonder how they left without picking up their first  league points of the season.

They had dominated the match for long spells and had restricted the Llwydcoed attack which had put six past Treharris midweek to a very little opportunities until the final eight minutes.

The first half saw Cwm in the ascendancy from the start with Cory Saunders prompting attacks from full back while Callum Dougal, Ronan Templeton and Leon Croucher looked solid in defence.

Having tested the home keeper a few times they saw a goal disallowed for hand ball but with Alex Giardelli and Gwion Howell causing Llwydcoed all sorts of problems it looked a matter of time before Cwm scored.

The goal inevitably came in the 43rd minute when the ball was not cleared and last season’s top scorer Calem Rees fired home.

Within a minute Alex Giardelli won a tackle and stormed through on Llwydcoed keeper Dan Field only in trying to bury it ending up firing over.

The second half opened up but a bit more but with little happening chance wise and with Kyle Ashford, Ross Morgan and Sion Dafydd Williams working hard in the extreme heat it looked as if Cwm would see the game out.

Llwydcoed then won a corner in the 82nd minute and the ball flew to the far post where Ricky Carter was allowed to head home. Kai Rees had been in control in goal all game but had no chance.

The home side finally had some ascendancy and Cwm saw some key influencers needing replacing which impacted their momentum.

In the 89th min a harmless looking ball over the top was headed backwards towards the keeper only to see it fall to Carter who steered it past the advancing Rees for the winner.

There was no time for Cwm to recover and Llwydcoed celebrated their smash and grab victory.

Disappointing for the team but some real positives as the signs that this new Cwm isstarting to gel will have raised hoped for a positive season despite the slow start.

There is no game Saturday due to the Welsh Cup but they play local rivals Ynysygerwn at home on Tuesday evening 23rd August.
