A former Llandovery pub will be turned into multiple apartments, after Carmarthenshire County Council fully approved the made proposals.

Greys House, formerly The Greyhound Inn, currently has an unused ground floor since it ceased trading as a public house.

The building also houses rentable short-term holiday let accommodation, taking up the first floor and attic space.

The proposal, made by Sherell Swales & Paul Summer Scales, “primarily concerns the change of use of Greys House from a pub into separate apartments of an Airbnb type nature.”

Located at 33 Stone Street in Llandovery, the area covers 248 square metres, with the hope of the space filling two independent apartments.

Llandovery Town Council were presented with the application, and with no objections, proposed it be approved by Carmarthenshire County Council.

Several months after the application was first submitted in mid-March, the county council gave full approval to the proposed development.

Conditions given along with the approval was that redevelopment work must start on the property in no more than five years’ time.

A spokesperson from Carmarthenshire County Council said after the application was approved: “The proposed conversion represents an acceptable form of development which is appropriate to the character and appearance of the surrounding area.

"It is of an acceptable design and will not have an unacceptable impact upon the residential amenity of nearby properties.

“The proposal is town centre located and there is adequate amenity and utility areas to serve the development and is served by parking areas in the locality.”

Another reason the council approved the proposals was because it “would not have a significant affect upon the architectural character of the building, and the justification for its conversion is accepted and the proposal would have no undesirable effect on the character of the conservation area.”

Now that the application has been approved, work is due to commence on the property.

The majority of the work which is to be conducted will be internal, with the only external works to take place being the introduction of skylights and a rear window.
