Llandeilo chef Catrin Manning has seared to victory after winning this year’s Cogurdd competition for the under 25’s.

“Research has shown that more people have become interested in cooking at home over the last two years and this has certainly been shown in the standards of this year’s competition,” said Elwen Roberts of the red meat body Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), who were this year’s main sponsors.

“And our aim is to continue encouraging young people to enjoy being creative in the kitchen.”

As part of their sponsorship, HCC have been actively promoting tasty and nutritious recipes using local produce such as Welsh lamb and Welsh beef.

“And this initiative fits in nicely with our new education resources which are available at redmeathub.wales as well as the new recipe book which we will be launching to help children cook from home," added Elwen Roberts.

The book is entitled ‘Our Kitchen’ and will be launched at the Royal Welsh Show later this summer.

Hundreds of children and young people from primary school age to the early twenties took part in the Cogurdd competition and the winners were announced at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Denbigh under the supervision of judges Rebecca Lyne-Pirkis and Bryn Williams.

“The support we’ve had from our partners has been fantastic,” said Urdd director Sian Eirian.

“We’re very grateful to Meat Promotion Wales for sponsoring elements of the CogUrdd competition this year, and in doing so, helping us to provide the best possible experiences to our competitors.

"And we’re confident that this will encourage them to take further interest in cooking and continu being creative in the kitchen.”
