Llandeilo toddlers will have a lot to be thankful for in years to come after the town’s Welsh language nursery school, Twts Tywi Ltd, was once again named as one of the best nursery schools in Wales.

This is the sixth year that Meithrinfa Twts Tywi has won the prestigious annual Nursery Award following a lengthy and detailed assessment by Day Nurseries.  This means that yet again Twts Tywi has retained its position in the top 20 nursery schools in Wales.

“This really is a tremendous honour for all of us, but most of all for the families of the children who attend,” said Twts Twyi Ltd's managing director, Caryl Thomas. “We couldn’t have done any of this without them.”

Caryl first opened the Welsh language school in November 2014 and has carefully watched it flourish in every direction over the subsequent seven years.

“And I suppose this is what makes the award so special,” continues Caryl.

"We were nominated by the parents who had to grade the school on each individual child care area including care, food, education, after-school clubs and holiday clubs.

"To the best of my knowledge, around 400 Welsh  nursery schools were included, so be selected in the top 20 is a huge honour."

A key attribute that makes the school stand head and shoulders above others is the welcome that it prides itself on giving to both the children and their families.

“From the outset we’ve tried to create a homely atmosphere where everyone can feel very much part of the school.

"Naturally this hasn’t always been easy, particularly during the pandemic, but by setting up our software app, we’re able to listen and communicate to families on a very strong level, which means that the parents and families feel in control.

“And then, of course, comes the fact that we’ve always stressed how important it is to listen to the voice of every child. The children come first, so every single thing that we do always revolves around them.”

The school accommodates 38 children who travel from as far afield as Llandovery, Llansawel, Nantgaredig, Gelli and Ammanford.

As well as the daily after-school club, it also has holiday clubs and family events such as the Winter Wonderland Trail and the family fun morning which will be taking place on July 9.
