A NUMBER of people have recently appeared in court for a range of offences committed in or by people from Pontardawe.

Ashley Thomas Smedley, 22, of Ynysmeudwy Road, Ynysmeudwy, Pontardawe, admitted assault by beating at Swansea Magistrates Court on May 3.

The offence took place on January 8 in Pontardawe. He was made the subject of a restraining order and ordered to pay £300 fine, £34 surcharge and £85 costs.

Wayne Daniel Leyh, 40, of Heol y Gors, Cwmgors, was given a four-month prison sentence by Swansea Magistrates Court after admitting driving whilst disqualified on April 27. The judge stated the journey was long and there was suggestion of cocaine in his body when he was caught on April 10.

He has also been banned from driving for 26 months and ordered to pay a surcharge of £128 and £85 costs. He was given no fixed penalty for driving without insurance.

Sophie Ann Griffiths, 36, of Erw Werdd, Birchgrove, admitted drink driving at Swansea Magistrates Court on May 3.

She was caught in the Tesco car park at Alltwen in Pontardawe on April 2 with 73 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath and was banned from driving for 16 months. She was also fined £50 and ordered to pay £34 surcharge and £85 costs.

Christopher John Jones, 48, of Ynys y Mond Road, Alltwen, Pontardawe, admitted speeding at Cardiff Magistrates Court on April 25.

He was caught on October 21 doing 31mph on Birchgrove Road in Swansea, which has a limit of 20mph. He was fined £246 and given four points on his licence. He also had to pay £34 surcharge and £90 costs.

Martin Jenkins, 49, of Penyralltwen Park, Rhos, Pontardawe, admitted speeding at Cardiff Magistrates Court on April 27.

He was caught on October 17 doing 46mph on A474 Graig Road where the limit is 40mph. He was fined £66 and given three points on his licence. He also had to pay £34 surcharge.

Simon O’Shea, 37, of Swansea Road, Trebanos, Pontardawe, was found guilty of two counts of failing to provide information relating to the driver of a vehicle by Cardiff Magistrates Court on March 30 and was given his sentence on April 27.

The first offence took place on January 5. He was banned from driving for 12 months due to repeat offending, fined £660 and ordered to pay £132 surcharge and £90 costs.

The second offence took place on January 12 where he was given six points on his licence and a £660 fine. He was also ordered to pay £90 costs.

Emma Blake, 48, of Pencwmdu, Cilmaengwyn, Pontardawe, was found guilty of failing to provide information relating to the identity of a driver by Cardiff Magistrates Court on April 27.

She failed to provide the information on January 3 and was fined £660, given six points on her licence and also ordered to pay £66 surcharge and £90 costs.

Helen Bradford, 66, of Brecon Road, Pontardawe, admitted failing to provide a specimen for analysis at Swansea Magistrates Court on April 27.

She failed to provide the sample on April 9 and was fined £160 and banned from driving for 12 months. She also had to pay £34 surcharge and £85 costs.

Tina Janice Doodes, 43, of Neath Road, Rhos, Pontardawe, was found guilty of failing to provide information relating to the identity of a driver at Cardiff Magistrates Court on April 27.

The offence happened on October 22. She was fined £660 and banned from driving for six months. She also had to pay £66 surcharge and £90 costs.

Julie Ann Percival, 53, of Francis Street, Pontardawe, admitted speeding at Cardiff Magistrates Court on April 26.

She was caught on October 4 doing 46mph on A4067 Godre-r-Graig where the limit is 40mph. She was fined £107 and given three points on her licence. She also had to pay £34 surcharge and £90 costs.

Graham Sypliwtchak, 47, of Alltywerin Road, Pontardawe, was sentenced by Swansea Magistrates Court on May 3 after admitting burglary on April 18.

He admitted stealing a bicycle and a pump from a garage in Cadoxton on April 15. He was given a four-month prison sentence suspended for 18-months. He was ordered to pay £128 surcharge and £85 costs.

He was given a further one-month sentence to run concurrently, also suspended for 18 months after admitting going equipped for burglary.
