Deputy Minister for Climate Change Lee Waters is urging the children of Ysgol Gynradd Tycroes to get on their bikes and enjoy the great outdoors, following a donation of free cycles from Free Bikes 4 Kids.

For several years the school has been eager for its pupils to learn to cycle safely and with confidence, but because it didn’t have any bikes of its own, it was unable to help them out,

But now, thanks to the support of Mr Waters, the children are freewheeling to victory.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn to ride a bike and it’s wonderful that, thanks to the fantastic scheme operated by Mike Jones and Free Bikes 4 Kids, the children have had these bikes completely free of charge,” said Mr Waters.

“Mike didn’t hesitate to make the donation when I told him about Tycroes School, and as we watched them cycling around, it was wonderful to see the smiles on their faces.

"This is an experience that’s going to stay with them for a very long time to come.”

The Free Bikes 4 Kids scheme, which is run by Mike Jones, repairs and reconditions bikes and then give them to children who need them, free of charge.

Meanwhile the Ysgol Gynradd Tycroes bikes have been welcomed by deputy headteacher, Mr Sondham.

“The children are so pleased to have been given them,” he said.

“It’s such an excellent idea, and we’re extremely grateful to Mr Waters and Free Bikes 4 Kids for choosing our school to receive the wonderful array of bikes.

"It was great for the children to meet Lee at our school last week alongside the Go Safe Team and they’re now well on the way to cycling with confidence.”
