Ammanford RFC travelled to face Dunvant in good spirits in Division One West Central, and their 22-5 winning margin could have been even greater, with errors less than a metre from the line costing them several tries.

Dunvant's backs looked very dangerous in the early stages, and the early loss of second row Sion Williams with concussion after five minutes of play would have shaken a lesser team.

With Ammanford's first positive attack, a penalty was won and kicked into the corner for a successful catch and drive that saw hooker Chris Morris go over, before a fine conversion from outside half Ryan Williams gave the visitors a 0-7 lead.

Dunvant’s backs created some overlaps, but some finely timed man and ball tackles by winger Rees snuffed out any threat.

Ammanford, however, stayed positive and a fine break by fullback Ceri Rees and a one-two with wing Mike Rees saw the ball fumbled for the first time, whilst in the action of scoring.

With full back Rees having an excellent game, he once again split the home defence only this time to be held up over the line.

Ammanford dominated the half, but the half time score was still only 0-7 and the travelling supporters feared a repeat of the Waunarlwydd game, where they dominated only to lose.

On two occasions the home defence looked under pressure, only for Ammanford's players to let the ball slip from their grasp.

At the start of the second half the supporters' fears looked to be coming true. Dunvant, with their first positive attack, aided by some poor fringe defence, saw the home prop break and thunder the 20 metres to line, to make it 5-7.

Dunvant remained positive but the visitors' try line defence, which has been solid of late, was  successful in repelling all the home team could throw at them.

Ammanford finally got the second half going and a fine break by centre Kai Richards took him right to the line, only to see the ball once again lost whilst crossing over the line.

Staying positive and running the ball at every opportunity, full back Rees gathered a wayward kick on the halfway line. He split the home defence and fed winger Rees to go over in the corner.

A superb conversion by Williams extended the lead to 5-14.

A further attack won a penalty and Williams extended the lead.
Ammanford were now looking as if they could score with every attack.

Another fine period of phase rugby and good handling saw winger Rees step back inside strongly to power over for his second try, to make it 5-22.

With time running out, Ammanford went for the bonus point. Ceri Rees again split the home defence, but with perhaps his only error of the game stepped outside instead of looking for support on the inside.

He was bundled into touch and the referee blew for full-time.

All in all a very good result and bodes well for next weekends Cup visit to Penallta, Cardiff.
