A SARON woman has raised money for a fundraiser after shaving off her hair.

Karen Kinnings-Dean has helped boost a local fundraiser set up in memory of Tycroes man Mark Davison who died on December 17, 2020, just 15 weeks after he was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 45.

Before Mark passed away he made a request to his mother Debbie to raise money for St Edmund’s Church, Tycroes and Mark’s legacy continues to live on through fundraising events.

South Wales Guardian:

Just before Christmas Debbie’s friend and colleague Karen “braved the shave” to boost the fundraising efforts.

Karen described how the idea of the hair shave came around.

She said: “I wanted to raise money and show my support to Deb because she does so much for the local community, this is my way of doing something for her and help the cause.”

Tracy from Tracy's Hair Studio carried out the shave at Petals, Tycroes, owned by Debbie.

The hair shave raised more than £800 towards the fundraiser.

Debbie said: “It means a lot to me that so many people are contributing in so many ways to the fundraiser, thank you so much to Karen for doing this and raising a lot of money, which helps to keep Mark’s legacy going.

“We have received some very generous donations, including a wonderful amount from local businessman Richard Safadi. It is so heart-warming to see so many caring and generous people.”

Karen added: “It is wonderful to raise so much money. I would like to thank all the people who made donations to my head shave fundraiser – I quite like my new look.”
