It was honours-even at Parc y Werin as Cwmgors maintained their unbeaten league start in Division Three West Central (A) with a 17-17 draw in their match against Cwmafan.

Nerves were jangling at the end, however, after visiting Cwmafan nabbed a last-gasp try, only to see the conversion fail to hit the target.

Cwmafan kicked off playing towards Waun School on a bitterly cold afternoon, where windy conditions made it difficult for both sides.

The hosts took the lead after 15 minutes with a well-worked try scored by Rob Clive, following some top supporting work beforehand by the Cwm forwards; and Andrew Mason added the successful conversion.

The visitors soon hit back with a converted try on the half hour, but the Cherries managed to get some good momentum going, and soon earned due reward.

A second try arrived before the interval when Joseff Davies went over the whitewash to bag themselves a well-deserved 12-7 half-time lead.

‘Gors restarted, but it was soon the visitors who managed the next score with another well-worked converted try to level matters again.

An entertaining ding-dong affair turned again when Mike Jones powered over the tryline to regain the home advantage.

But the Cherries failed to put the game to bed, and they were punished late on when they leaked a late try ,but fortunately for ‘Gors, the conversion failed and perhaps a draw was fair enough for both sides in the end.

In Division Three West (B) Amman United slipped to a second-successive defeat on a bitterly cold day at Cwmamman Park, where the Reds were literally frozen-out by visiting Trimsaran, who triumphed 12-0.

A strong driving line out leading to a penalty-try had given Trim a 5-0 half-time lead, and they finished the job with a second, converted try later.
