Residents in an Amman Valley street have complained of a "long-running" problem with water supply.

One resident of Highfield Road, Twyn, Garnant said that the issue had been going on for more than two years and that residents were "fed up" with the constant disruption in water supply.

Garnant County Councillor and Highfield Road resident, Kevin Madge, has called on Dwr Cymru to urgently replace the piping in the road.

He said: "The road has been dug up at least 10 times over the last two years, leading to disruption in the water with no prior warning.

"The residents have had enough of the constant disruption. I ask that Dwr Cymru stop carrying out repairs and replace the whole piping system.

"Surely it is costing Dwr Cymru thousands of pounds in repairs every time they have been called out over the two year period. I am concerned that the piping system in the Twyn area needs renewing. We deserve a much better service than we have currently and we need urgent action."

Responding to the concerns, a Dwr Cymru spokeswoman said: "We are aware of issues with the water supply network in the Highfield Road area and are of course very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused residents.

"We have investigated the cause and following a review of the system have installed new valves. These should improve the situation for our customers. We will of course keep the situation under close review and thank our customers there for bearing with us."
