SCARLETS have confirmed that they will take on English Championship side Nottingham in a pre-season clash at Parc y Scarlets ahead of the new United Rugby Championship campaign.

The match will take place on Saturday, September 4 in Llanelli with a 2.30pm kick-off.

With social distancing restrictions still in place, the club is waiting for the next Welsh Government Covid-19 directive before confirming ticket details for the game.

Nottingham play in the Greene King IPA Championship, with three Scarlets – Jac Price, Harri O’Connor and Shaun Evans – featuring for the club on loan last season.

Scarlets will then head to the East Midlands to take on Leicester Tigers at Mattioli Woods Welford Road on Thursday, September 9 (7pm ko).

The sides last met in the 2018-19 Champions Cup, which resulted in a home win apiece from the pool encounters.

The opening round of the URC takes place on the weekend of September 24-26.

New signings Scott Williams, Will Griff John, Tom Price and Tomas Lezana were welcomed to Parc y Scarlets as the bulk of the squad returned for pre-season training last week.

For Williams and Price, surroundings will be familiar as they begin their second spell at the club.

John has signed from Sale Sharks and Pumas back-rower Tomas Lezana has arrived from Super Rugby side Western Force.

The players were put through their paces under the guidance of new head coach Dwayne Peel and his coaching team.

It includes recent additions Nigel Ashley-Jones (head of physical performance) and Hugh Hogan (defence coach).

The Scarlets players who have been involved on international duty this summer will return next month, while the four British & Irish Lions will be back in September.
