ARGENTINA scrum-half Gonzalo Bertranou has committed to another season with the Dragons after being a “revelation” at Rodney Parade.

The Pumas star signed in February until the end of the 2020/21 campaign with an option to extend the deal.

The Dragons were always keen on the 26-times capped international, who helped Argentina stun the All Blacks last year, staying on and he settled swiftly in Wales.

Bertranou has made seven lively appearances and also brought the best out of captain Rhodri Williams, his rival for the 9 jersey.

The duo will continue their tussle next season after negotiations were successful on a one-year contract with the Puma, to the delight of director of rugby Dean Ryan.

South Wales Argus:

“Gonzalo has been a revelation for us since he arrived and so we are very pleased he is staying with us,” he said.

“He has really increased the competition for nine jersey and it has helped bring out the best in players like Rhodri Williams.

“His international experience and skill set is also beneficial for the development of our young players.

“Gonzalo helps enable us to play a fast game and he is clearly enjoying the environment and looking to push himself in a new competition.”

The former Jaguares half-back has adapted to European rugby and is relishing another campaign at Rodney Parade.

South Wales Argus:

“I’m pleased to stay and continue my rugby journey with Dragons,” said Bertranou.

“I’ve enjoyed playing in a new tournament and the environment we have here, with a close squad who are pushing each other.

“It’s been an unusual time to move to a new country but I’ve been made very welcome and now I look forward to fans returning and playing for them at Rodney Parade.”

Bertranou, Williams, Tavis Knoyle and Dan Babos are under contract for next season while Luke Baldwin has spent the last two years on loan from Worcester, with his Warriors deal expiring in the coming weeks.
