Wycombe Wanderers have been given a glimmer of hope in continuing their Championship journey after reports the EFL has won its appeal to find Derby County in breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

Last August Derby were cleared of charges relating to the sale of the club's Pride Park Stadium to owner Mel Morris and the other about how the club reduces the value of its players.

It has now been reported the EFL has successfully appealed the second charge meaning Derby could face potential fines or points deduction.

If points deduction come into force this season for Derby it would likely see Wycombe move above the Rams who sit one point above the Chairboys.

Chairboys owner Rob Couhig alluded to the possibility when speaking after Wycombe's 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on the final day of the season.

He said: "I don't know that the season is over.

"We have accumulated all the points we can and we will see what happens.

"People tell me Derby County have some issue out there.

"I don't know we are ready to go to lawyers yet.

"This is what I would tell Wycombe fans whatever league it's in.

"We know how to compete on and off the pitch and we will always compete."

The club has added that they will not be commenting further on the topic.
