GWAUN cae Gurwen community library has secured two authors to speak at its virtual book club and take part in Easter activities.

Best-selling romantic comedy author Christie Barlow will be joining the adult virtual book club on Wednesday, March 24 at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, on Monday, March 29 as part of the library's Easter online activities, award winning author and illustrator Thomas Docherty will be taking a drawing challenge.

Lucy Harrison, library co-ordinator said: "There's a spring in the step of our lovely volunteers now that we've reopened the library's 'Order and Collect Service'. It could also be that our exciting Easter programme already has nine fun and varied activities lined up on Zoom.

"Before that, we're thrilled to announce that Christie Barlow, best selling author of the 'Love Heart Lane' books, will be joining our Novels@Night book club on Wednesday, March 24 at 7.30pm on Zoom."

The library's virtual book club was set up in November and currently has 30 members on board.

Lucy added: "Emma, one of our founder members has read all of Christie Barlow's books so, not only did she recommended them but she also revealed that Christie was willing to join our monthly book club chat and let us into her writing secrets.

"Using grant money from the Cultural Recovery Fund the library purchased a set of her books to distribute to our members as this month's book.

"We're all looking forward to chatting to the author of this heartwarming rom-com."

Easter will see a host of online activities on offer for local children funded by a Playworks Grant from Neath Port Talbot Council.

Activities include four pre-bookable craft sessions; story time session; wreath making; weaving and quizzes.

Author and illustrator Thomas Docherty will take part in a drawing challenge on Monday, March 29 at 11am. Thomas will show how to create characters and pictures and develop stories.

Meanwhile, Ellie Ervine will run an Easter weaving class for children on April 1 and 6 at 11am, and Sian 'Perthi' will host an Easter wreath and arrangement session for families on March 28 and 30.

On April 11, the library is joining up with its friends 'Into The Wild Animal Encounters', who will be showing some animals and revealing some great facts about them.

Other events held virtually include Caffi Cymraeg for Welsh learners on Tuesday mornings and Fun with French on Thursday evenings.

Members can use the library's order and collect service on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 10.15am to 11.45am.
