A LLANDOVERY man has penned a song which is hailed as a potential new Welsh rugby anthem.

Christian Aaron Perry’s track ‘God’s Country’ has already gained a lot of interest online and airplay on BBC Radio Wales with Frank Hennessey.

Earlier this week Christian’s song featured on the St David’s Day concert ‘Gwlad’ as part of the West End of Wales Celebration of Wales stream.

Christian wrote the song on an ‘adrenaline high’ following a Welsh Six Nations rugby game.

It has been dubbed as an unofficial anthem for Wales.

He said: “While watching the Wales v Ireland Six Nations rugby match on February 7, things were getting tight between the two teams.

“Well into overtime, Wales were pushing back with everything they could to stop the Ireland might. I was stood shouting at the top of my lungs at the TV, come on boys!

“When the final whistle blew, I was so high on adrenaline I just wanted to bottle it somehow so that I could feel like this forever.

“I grabbed my Martin guitar, a pen and paper and started to write.

“With expert help from my darling Elizabeth we finished it within ten minutes and had a song on our hands that we thought was both catchy and relatable.

“It’s about the patriotism one feels for their country when put under difficult circumstances. In the end we all come together and drive forward.”

Christian said Llandovery is a big inspiration for his song-writing.

“Llandovery pulls on the heart strings and is a great example of what binds the nation’s communities together,” he said.

“Our beautiful mountains, tourist hotspots and legacy, captivate the hearts of all who visit them, inspiring and enticing them to return regularly.

“During these difficult times of Covid, we cannot experience the values of our land; ‘God’s Country’ is about the passion we hold dear within our hearts, knowing we are a part of this great nation. A feeling that is legendary.”
