Next week we will be celebrating Saint David’s Day.

David’s biographer, Rhigyfarch, writing in the eleventh century, records that before he died in 589 he gave this advice to his followers: “Be joyful, keep your faith and your creed, and do the little things that you have heard and seen me do.”

Although the historicity of these words is dubious, their sentiments are Biblically based and provide a wonderful recipe for the Christian life.

Firstly we are called to be joyful. During the past year joy has been in short supply. However, we need to remember that joy doesn't depend on circumstances but on our relationship with Jesus Christ, and is grounded on the hope of heaven that awaits us.

Secondly, we are encouraged to uphold our faith and belief. In all situations we should nurture our faith, and endeavour to pass it on to others. Although many of our churches have been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, in several places many have found new ways to keep their faith and share it such as joining Zoom services which have been attracting people who would never usually darkened a church door.

Finally, we are urged to concentrate on doing little things. Christianity is not just a matter of believing but also doing. During the pandemic Christians have been given an unique opportunity to put their faith into practice by doing little things to help others. Never forget, small actions can have big consequences.

This week's thought: Saint David's legacy is in your hands.
