CWMAMMAN United AFC manager Grant Rees has raised almost £3,000 for former club player Paul Pugh by running 10k every day for a month.

Grant began his challenge on November 24 and completed his final run on Christmas eve.

He had initially set a target of £1,000 but the figure is almost triple that with a total raised to date of £2,925 for Paul and his family.

Paul was viciously attacked by a group of men while out enjoying an evening with friends on January 6, 2007, for which four men were jailed.

Paul was left in a coma for two months and hospitalised for 13 months following the attack. The injuries he sustained meant he lost his speech and use of the left-hand side of his body, but his determined spirit and hard work have enabled him to partially recover from his injuries.

Grant said he is still inspired by the bravery of Paul Pugh, who continues to campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse.

Last year Paul received a national award at the House of Lords for tackling underage drinking with his Paul’s Pledge campaign, which has seen him visits schools, colleges and youth clubs to raise awareness of the dangers and consequences of alcohol-fuelled violence.
