THE roll-out of the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine from GP surgeries has begun in the Amman and Towy area.
Brynteg and Margaret Street surgeries in Ammanford, along with Llanfair, Llandovery, have confirmed to have taken delivery of their first batch of doses.
Brynteg surgery said it had started delivering the vaccine last week to residents and staff in care homes and this week has seen residents aged 80 years and over receive their vaccine at the surgery, while the the practice continues with his care home vaccination programme.
Welcoming the vaccine, Dr Smith, senior partner at Brynteg said: “General Practice has been waiting to get involved in the vaccination programme and everyone wants to play their part.
“We are making good progress and already have a number of our local care homes and 80 years and over population vaccinated.
“The surgery has made lots of alterations to our working practice so we can accommodate vaccination clinics.
“We are happy to be working alongside the health board to contribute as much as we can to the roll-out.
“The team at Brynteg have answered the call and I am really proud of everyone.”
Practice manager Jo Bishop is reminding the public that the vaccine clinics will be by invitation.
“The whole team are working hard to accomplish the vaccination programme as quickly as supplies allow,” she said.
