FRAUDSTERS are trying to steal people’s bank details with fake NHS text messages offering the Covid-19 vaccine.

The text message states that “we have identified that your are eligible to apply for your vaccine” and advises you to follow a link to get more information and ‘apply’.

This URL takes you through to an extremely convincing fake NHS website that asks for your personal details and bank/card details in order to ‘check identity’.

There are spelling mistakes on the site and in the message itself, which are classic signs of a phishing scam. Also, once again, the NHS would not ask for your bank details.

People must wait for the NHS to contact them when it is their turn to have the vaccine.

Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards has urged residents to take extra precaution when receiving messages they are unsure of.

He said: “This text message scam is the latest in a series of similar activities that have emerged recently.

“It is abhorrent that there are people taking advantage of the current situation in such a way, and it is completely immoral. I would urge residents to take extra precaution when receiving any messages they are unsure of. You will never be asked for your bank details by the NHS.”
