Coleg Sir Gâr sports students are set to benefit from first hand expertise from former world hurdles champion Dai Greene, as part of the college’s Elite Performer Programme.

The athlete, a former sports student of the college, is a professional world-class 400m hurdles champion with experience of competing at Olympic, Commonwealth, European and British championships.

Learners will receive one to one support via continuous email and monthly video calls designed to support them in areas they feel they need it most.

Issues could include dealing with injuries and setbacks, handling competition nerves and balancing studies and training.

Dai Greene said: “The aim of the programme is to help educate learners in handling the demands of elite sport.

“I certainly wish I had access to something like this when I was a young adult as it can be difficult to find the right person to talk to.

“I’d like students to feel comfortable in talking openly to me about their issues as the passion for wanting to be a better athlete is what will help drive them to reach the pinnacle of their sport.”

The Elite Performer Programme is open to all students who want to compete at county, regional level or above and aims to support all sporting disciplines to develop elite athletes during their college journey.
