GWAUN cae Gurwen library may not be buzzing with people during the Christmas period, but it hasn't stopped them from marking the occasion - virtually.

The library's website is currently running its virtual Christmas fair with a number of local businesses selling crafts and goods.

On Wednesday, December 2, they will be hosting a virtual Christmas wreath-making workshop. For £15 you will receive everything you need in preparation for the session. A few last minutes places are available, email ylolfa.gcg@gmail.com for details.

On December 4 and 11 the Santa Experience will see 20 children have a virtual chat with him in his Santa's Grotto.

As well as the Christmas event the library continues to host its weekly Welsh language learner chat, Caffi Cymraeg, online.

Lucy Harrison, library co-ordinator, said: "We would like to thank Gareth Walters our resident Welsh speak, who is our mentor and to all the regulars who have been every week, or drop in occasionally. We have all really enjoyed the continued Welsh learning and of course the social interaction really has benefited the group giving us contact in a time where isolation is a major factor for home workers and parents in the area."

The library is also hosting a competition for children that will run alongside the Reading Agency's Mini Winter Challenge.

Lucy added: "In light of Marcus Rashford's support of children reading in the news recently, we feel parents families and of course schools should be pushing children to take up this amazing life building skill, with family reading sessions and making books fun.

"Our New Year Book clubs will be starting in January but meanwhile get in touch to click and collect some of our amazing selection of new children's books that are available at GCG Library because of a successful grant application."
