A WOMAN has been charged with drink driving after a late-night crash on Friday.

Kirstie Pearman, of Rycroft Meadow, has been charged by police after the collision, which happened just after 10pm on Friday, November 13, closed Beggarwood Lane for many hours.

The 26-year-old, who was behind the wheel of the Mini, will appear at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.

Hampshire Constabulary also confirmed that the driver of the Audi - a 29-year-old man from Basingstoke who has not been named - that was also involved in the crash has been released under investigation.

Police confirmed yesterday that the 29-year-old fled the scene after the crash and was detained by officers after they located him in the area.

A spokesperson previously told the Gazette: "A 29-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while over the legal limit, failing to stop at the scene of a road accident, failure to report a road accident, dangerous driving and leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position."

Pearman had been arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while over the legal limit.

Three people suffered minor injuries, while one person was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital to have their injuries assessed.

Three fire engines and a number of police cars and ambulances were called to the scene just before 10.15pm on Friday after the crash was first reported.

The road was closed by police after firefighters and paramedics administered first aid.
