AMMAN Valley residents will soon have the chance to vote which projects should benefit from police funding.

Community groups in Cwmamman and Cwarter Bach have applied for funds from a pot of more than £12,500 committed by Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn, with additional funding from Carmarthenshire County Council, Cwmamman and Cwarter Bach Councils and Betws Wind Farm.

A virtual event is being held on November 7, which will see people have their say on how the money is split between the groups.

Commissioner Mr Llywelyn said: “I have committed to fund this new and innovative approach to community funding as I think it’s vital that local residents have a say in how money is spent in their local area.

“They are best placed to work with the police, and indeed other partner agencies, to identify where the money is needed and what would most benefit the local communities.

“Communities should be influencing the decisions.”

The Mynydd Du Community Fund Participatory Budgeting public vote will take place on Saturday, November 7.

PCSO Dayton Hughes from the neighbourhood policing team said: “It is important that members of the public register so they can vote on which projects they think should benefit from the funding.

“Organisations were required to show how their project could improve and promote wellbeing in the community.

“A total of 19 bids have been received and it is up to the public to vote for the projects they think will make a difference.”
