AN Ammanford mum is looking to raise £1,000 in memory of her father who died earlier this year after a battle with kidney disease.

Lauren Dewsbury is hosting a raffle while her brother Jamie and son Tomos will be taking part in a 10k run and cycle in Lauren's childhood home county of Cheshire.

The money raised through donations will be shared between Kidney Care UK and mental health charity Mind.

Lauren, who has lived in Ammanford for 16 years, said: "We lost our loving dad Kenneth on March 19, just before lockdown.

"Kidney care was a big part of our lives because dad lost his life due to kidney failure.

"We would normally have asked for donations at the funeral but due to Covid-19 regulations only a small group could attend.

"The charity Mind was also a big help to my dad so we wanted to split the money between the both charities."

Lauren's brother Jamie and her nine-year-old son Tomos will be running the 10k at Arley Hall in Cheshire on October 18. Jamie will be running and Tomos will be cycling along with him.

Lauren, who works in Jenkins Bakery, Ammanford added: "The raffle will be drawn just after the run. We have some amazing prizes that have kindly been donated from local businesses, including a £50 voucher from a local butcher, lunch for two at a Chinese restaurant, Subway vouchers, a case of wine, meal for two at Glynhir, plus lots more."
