PUPILS in Year 13 at Ysgol Dyffryn Amman have been told to stay at home after a child tested positive for Covid-19.

Parents have today received a letter from the school telling them there has been a confirmed case in the school.

Pupils of year 13 have been told to self-isolate at home until further notice.

The letter, from headteacher Nerys Nicholas said the school was working with the council and NHS Wales Test, Trace Protect procedure.

Adding: “Pupils of year 13 in Ysgol Dyffryn Aman have been identified as potentially coming into close contact with the individual that has tested positive.

“We are requesting that pupils of year 13 in Ysgol Dyffryn Aman work and self-isolate at home until provided with instruction that they are able to return to school.”

Ms Nicholas said parents will be contacted within 48 hours to confirm whether a period of self-isolation is required for 14 days.

Adding: “If your child is required to self-isolate, everyone else in the household can continue as normal and go to work/school, however if your child becomes symptomatic, the whole household would then need to self-isolate.

“This process of testing and contact tracing is part of the ‘new normal’ and where schools follow these guidelines carefully, there is no cause for alarm.”

The latest case comes less than a week after the school confirmed an individual had tested positive for Covid-19, however no pupils were asked to self-isolate.

An update from the school on Thursday, October 8, confirmed pupils who had not been contacted by the TTP could return to school on Friday, October 9.

A statement from headteacher Nerys Nicholas said: “I have now received an update from TTP regarding our year 13 who have been self-isolating for two days as a precautionary measure following the confirmed positive case of Covid-19 on October 6.

“I can confirm that they can return to school tomorrow, Friday, October 9, as they have not been noted as a close contact of the individual. The very few pupils how have been noted as a close contact of the individual have been contacted by TTP and will need to self-isolate for 14 days.

“I appreciate this is an uncertain time for us all and I thank you for your continued support and co-operation."
