AN Indian restaurant has been given three stars in its latest food hygiene rating.

Barrow Indian Cuisine in Cavendish Street has been awarded three out of five stars in its recent hygiene inspection.

The inspection, which was carried out by Barrow Borough Council, rated the eatery as ‘very good’ for its hygienic food handling, but said ‘improvement was necessary’ for the restaurant’s cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety.

Rofee Chowdhury, manager of Barrow Indian Cuisine, said: “We’ve been given a very small list of things to do which are minor like painting the kitchen and changing the tables.

“We’ve just opened after a long lockdown so it’s been hard getting going again. We will bring the health officer back again and hopefully get five stars. Everything is very clean - the only the problem is the paint which is very minor.

“We’re happy for the council to revisit once we’ve made these changes.”

Barrow Borough Council was unable to respond in time this publication went to print.
