PLANS to turn a dwelling into a children's home have been approved.

Eden District Council gave the OK to plans on Monday for the property on Mill Street, Penrith.

An application had been submitted in July by Carlisle based Hopscotch Care that provides support for children aged 11-17 in Carlisle and north Lancashire.

According to the design and access statement: "The proposal is to retain the residential use, but it would be lived in by two children, aged 11-17, with carers to provide 24 hour care.

"Sometimes it is not possible to find foster or adoptive homes for children as there is a chronic shortage of such homes.

"Cumbria County Council has been advertising heavily to find more foster and permanent homes to meet the shortfall."
