PROPOSALS for a 30 acre solar farm near Penrith have been revealed.

Plans were submitted to Eden District Council for a screening opinion on the "small-scale installation of solar panels and associated equipment" on land west of Omega Proteins on Greystoke Road and Mile Lane.

The firm, who's also the applicant, processes animal by-products on the site.

It had recently written to the council asking for the opinion, namely if the application would be subject to an environmental impact assessment.

In the information pack it submitted to the council it stated: "Consideration of the main impacts associated with the proposed solar farm indicates that it is not likely to have significant environmental impacts."

It adds: "It is undulating agricultural land in two parcels, the main parcel of about 24.8 acres between Gretstoke Road and Mile Lane and a second smaller parcel of about 7.6 acres on the south side of mile lane."

In its response, the council, on August 4, stated that an environmental statement would not be required.
