Construction work has restarted at a new retirement home in Malpas following a coronavirus-enforced shutdown.

The Cedars, in Old Hall Street, is currently being constructed by McCarthy and Stone but construction was halted in March as the country entered a lockdown thanks to Covid-19.

Construction has now resumed, much to the delight of site manager Jamie Law.

“We are working with a reduced team in order that social distancing rules can be enforced and we are adapting well to the new working conditions," said Jame.

“The safety and wellbeing of the public and everyone who works on our sites remains our top priority.

"We are well prepared and ready to deliver the new homes the country needs for our increasingly elderly population.”

The Cedars is one of many sites McCarthy and Stone will recommence construction in August, with more planned for October as part of the company’s phased approach to restarting.

Jamie has also thanked his colleagues in the industry for the support shown throughout the lockdown.

“The commitment from our colleagues and contractors in Malpas throughout this most challenging period had been exceptional and I would like to thank them for all their support," he added.

"We are pleased to get back to what we do best, and that’s enriching the lives of our customers by creating new homes that are more suited to their needs and which will allow them to live safely and independently for longer.”
