THE Log Cabin in Stockbridge Road, the home of the 11th Winchester Scout Group, had a break in on the evening of Sunday July 5.

Its lawn mower, strimmer and long reach hedge trimmer were stolen.

The Log Cabin was built by volunteers from 1952 to 1961 and ever since has been a popular community venue. In 2016 the scouts launched a fundraising appeal for a major extension and refurbishment. The improvements revitalised the venue and once again it became a community hub, also used by a children’s play group, pilates groups, fitness groups and for children’s private parties.

During lockdown the hall’s only activity has been scheduled maintenance and improvements meaning it was empty for long periods and it was one of these when the break in occurred. A neighbour spotted three lads taking the items away and reported the strange activity to us.

The grass has not been cut for a few months so the group is appealing for an old petrol-driven lawn mower or strimmer they could donate to the group we would be very grateful. Contact scout leader Giles Gooding at: giles@11thwinchester.org.uk
