MOST flytipping is in one place at one time.

The criminal dumps them in one place and then scarpers.

There was a variant on the back lanes south of Cheriton in which litterbugs left their trash at intervals. Almost a piece of conceptual art.

James Stanley, of Beauworth, took these photos and said it was obvious that all this came from one source as there were complementary items in each pile.

He told the Chronicle: "I hope you might be able, by publication, to encourage the owner to retrieve their belongings or the police to prosecute them for this disgraceful act."

The dumps included the Beauworth road to The Milburys, the road from the A272 to Brockwood, Riversdown Road, Wheely Down Road and Salt Lane towards Bishop's Waltham.

Mr Stanley added: "I have tried really hard to tidy up the Beauworth area this year as I hate to see our lovely countryside spoilt by litter. At the start of lockdown a team from Beauworth picked up 32 black bags full of miscellaneous litter while on their exercise walks. Fosters cans are favourite. This lot is in a class of its own as the total must be over a ton in weight."

The mattress was tipped at Bramdean Common near the Church in the Wood.

Mr Stanley says he suspects it has got worse recently with the restrictions on the use of recycling centres. "Ever since anew contractor took over Winchester's recycling centre and it has been necessary to register with the council the disposal of rubbish has become a problem to lots of people. Bureaucracy always gets up the nose of the ordinary person."
