Greyhound Rescue Wales’ very own Zed has a chapter devoted to him in a new book about therapy dogs by Alison Stokes.

Zed lives near Swansea with his greyhound sister Gem.

Zed and Gem are regular participants in Study Aid visits at Swansea University Students Union where their gentle natures have made them favourites with the students.

Students leave these sessions feeling more relaxed and ready to take on whatever challenges life brings.

Zed will be six in September, and has spent large chunks of his life recovering from serious and life-threatening health problems, including a hock fracture at a racetrack which brought him into the care of Greyhound Rescue Wales, a splenectomy, and a complicated spinal surgery after he became immobilised due to a blood clot and nerve damage in his back.

Zed is a true survivor, though, with an indestructible will to live.

His chapter in the book describes what happened and how Zed went from needing intensive care himself to helping others.

The book is called “Dogs for Life. A collection of true tales of pets with a purpose” written by Alison Stokes.

Riley, the publishers say: “Dogs are often our best friends and share a special bond with us, but what if your dog was more than just a pet.

“In Dogs for Life we share the stories of dogs with very important jobs to do.

“These tales are heart-warming, inspiring, emotional, and funny. Dogs for Life shows how some amazing animals are changing the lives of the people who love them.”

The book is supported by the Book Council for Wales and is part of their Quick Reads campaign.

The campaign aims to break down barriers and get Wales reading by producing short, gripping books available from libraries, bookshops and online for just £1.

Quick Reads are short, snappy books with fewer than 100 pages each, and are especially written for people who wish to improve their skills and confidence around reading.
