A FLAGSHIP eco-tourism village, the first of its kind in the UK, in Garnant is set to be completed in October.

The village, with spa complex and chalets, were due to be completed in August after planning permission was granted last April.

However, the lockdown as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, forced work to be delayed.

The tourism facility, which includes a spa building, which will run on solar power, and will include a swimming pool, jacuzzi, saunas, and steam rooms amongst more, will also be open to Garnant residents.

Speaking about the impact the Coronavirus pandemic has had on the development, Simon Card, of Brecon View Eco Village, said they had managed to avoid too many delays.

Mr Card said: “We were aiming to finish in August originally, but obviously the lockdown put a bit of a kibosh to that and put us on hold.

“We had feared the worst when it was first announced but we were able to get back on sight a lot quicker than expected and our thoughts are now on completing in October.”

Workmen on the site only missed eight days of working at the start of lockdown, which allowed them to stay mainly on schedule with the building.

Mr Card said: “We think this is very positive news. We felt that when lockdown came we were really in trouble. It was never going to just be three weeks.

“WE had seen what had happened in other countries and knew we were looking at months of lockdown.

“We have worked really closely with our contractors and it has allowed us to keep as close to our target as possible.

“It is all credit to the boys on site who have been brilliant and were really eager to get back to it.

“We had planned for a Welsh summer so had built in losing three weeks to our plan. As it is, we lost eight days at the start of lockdown, but then because of the great weather we have only missed two days since then so have done really well.”

Mr Card is hopeful the site will be able to hit the ground running when it launches in the autumn.

He said: "People have seen how quickly the planet recover when we don't driver and we don't fly, so I believe that will over when they see the chance to stay at the only carbon neutral eco-village in the country.

"It is particularly eco-friendly because 92 per cent of our contractors are local and within 20 miles of the site, so we're not driving supplies across the country."
