A BETWS gamer is set to take part in a 12-hour gaming live stream for an arts charity.

Connor Strange, an avid gamer, is hoping the marathon stream will help generate publicity and raise funds for Acting for Others, a group which provides financial and emotion support to theatre workers in times of need.

The 24-year-old will be playing games from his own home from 9am on Saturday, August 1 until 9pm.

Connor wants to help colleagues from across the country who are struggling financially and emotionally due to Covid-19.

He said: “I want to give something back to a community of creatives that are truly accepting and inclusive. The creative arts community are a family to me. The work that Acting for Others do is inspiring, and I hope to raise both awareness and money for the charity.”

Connor’s involvement with the creative arts community has seen him work in theatre and radio.

Through his blog, Connor has spoken candidly about his struggles with mental health and how the art community has helped him overcome them.

Connor, who has previously been a spokesperson for Mental Health organisation Time to Change, said the gaming marathon has been a great focus during the current pandemic.

He said: “Keeping myself motivated throughout the Covid-19 outbreak has been a monumental task, something that I found exceedingly difficult. This crisis has taken its toll on me personally.

“I’m now a freelance theatre technician and event crew, but I chose a very bad year to start with theatres closed.”

“But, despite the situation, I have been keeping myself busy. I am forever grateful to the work that key workers from every industry are doing to keep our nation running, especially through an unprecedented time in our country’s history.”
