MEMBERS of the Ammanford Lions Club have made more than £850 worth of donations to local organisations during lockdown.

Despite almost all the members of the club being stuck at home during lockdown, it hasn't stopped them from doing what they can to help the community.

In April, the Lions were able to donate £450 to Amman Valley Makerspace to aid their efforts to make face shields for frontline NHS workers.

While, more recently, they presented donations worth £200 to both Ammanford Foodbank and Amman Valley Foodbank.

Rob Venus, from the Makerspace, said: "We really appreciated the donation. It made a huge difference."

His thanks were echoed by Paul, of Ammanford Foodbank, and Jasmine of Amman Valley Foodbank, who both expressed their gratitude for the donations.

Members who are able to get out and about have been keeping stocks of Message in a Bottle topped up and held a socially distanced working party at Ammanford Station to clear rubbish and tidy the flowerbeds.

One member has also spent lockdown making headbands for the nursing staff at Glangwili Chemotherapy Unit.

Rhian Thomas, President of Ammanford Lions Club, said: "We are keen to do our bit at this difficult time.

"Fundraising is almost impossible at the moment.

"There are two ways people can support our club.

"The first is by joining our 50 club which means a commitment of £4 a month.

"The second is by donating via PayPal Giving, the link is on our Facebook page."
