MORE stalls will be re-opening in Carmarthenshire Markets this week as business restrictions are eased.

Carmarthenshire County Council is supporting traders to safely get back to business after months of largely being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There will be a phased opening in Llanelli, Carmarthen and Ammanford indoor and outdoor markets stalls with reduced trading days from Wednesday to Saturday.

A huge effort has been put in to ensure a safe and clean environment - in line with government advice - is provided to welcome back shoppers.

Stalls have been adapted to ensure social distancing with an increase in cleaning frequency and stricter hygiene regimes. Visitor numbers will be restricted and controlled entry and exit systems in place as well as hand sanitising stations. Directional arrows and signage will be displayed around the areas reminding people to adhere to the new guidelines. Toilets will be closed in both indoor markets to avoid congestion in corridors.

Shoppers are being urged to follow the new guidelines when visiting the market and to act responsibly and consider others around.

The council’s executive board member responsible for markets, Cllr David Jenkins said: “We are pleased to be able to welcome back shoppers to Carmarthenshire Markets after having been largely closed since lockdown in March. It will be a phased re-opening over the coming weeks whilst we all get used to a different way of shopping.

“We hope that you will support our local traders while they recover from what has been a very challenging time. We would also ask that you adhere to the new safety guidelines and consider those around you when visiting the markets to ensure it is a safe and clean environment for everyone.”
