ROUTINE street cleansing services across Carmarthenshire have resumed following the return of staff who had been redeployed to support frontline services during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Carmarthenshire County Council said that whilst its regular street maintenance regime has returned, people should still be aware that their waste is their responsibility - littering and fly-tipping will not be tolerated.

The council has asked for people to help keep the county clean, reporting full litter bins and taking their rubbish home with them if they do not come across a nearby bin.

Recyclable waste, such as glass bottles, should not be left on the ground at community recycling sites as this is also classed as littering.

The council’s executive board member for environment, Cllr Hazel Evans said: “We are pleased that we have been able to resume our normal cleansing services this week. We urge people to dispose of their waste properly by presenting their rubbish for collection no sooner than 6pm the night before collection and in the correct coloured bag. Any waste that poses a health and safety risk at home can be taken to the recycling centres after making an appointment online.

“Fly tipping is not only unsightly and attracts wildlife but is costly to the taxpayer. Dumping waste and expecting other people to pick it up is unacceptable. We will take action to recover the costs of anyone found disposing their waste in this way.”

As well as weekly kerbside collections, people are reminded that Household Waste Recycling Centres have re-opened for any essential household waste that poses a potential health and safety risks at home
