PLAYGROUNDS in Betws have been closed to protect the public during the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision was taken by Betws Community Council last week.
A spokesman said: "In line with Carmarthenshire County Council's lead in closing their playgrounds, we have closed both Heol Y Felin and Maesquarre playgrounds due to the coronavirus pandemic and in so are following the government's instruction.
"The reason for their closure is to minimise the spread of corona virus especially as playground equipment is not cleaned down after each person uses it.
"Unfortunately, on a number of occasions since then children have been found playing in playgrounds within the Betws community. The Community Council would urge parents to ensure that their children keep out of the playgrounds until further notice.
"It’s is imperative that parents ensure all of your family adhere to the government guidelines.
"Betws Community Council would urge residents who witness children or groups of people congregating in either the playgrounds, Betws Park or indeed anywhere within the village to telephone Dyfed Powys Police on 101 in order that they can deal with the situation.”
