Ysgol Dyffryn Aman will close today, the school has announced.
The Ammanford secondary school was due to close from tomorrow after the Welsh Government announcement yesterday.
But a letter to parents from headteacher Nerys Nicholas said: “Due to low staffing levels of teachers, support staff, caterers and cleaners, and in the interest of health and safety and safeguarding of pupils and staff, the school will close at 3.10pm today, Thursday, March 19.
“I have not taken this decision lightly but in consultation with chair of governors and the local authority at a time when the risks of transferring the coronavirus covid-19 disease is increasing daily, I am sure you will agree that such a step is taken to safeguard all involved within the school community.
“There will be no onsite educational activity at the school for at least the next four weeks.”
She added that to close the school today is clearly the safest course of action and therefore the most sensible one.
