CARMARTHENSHIRE County Council’s leader is urging people to heed official information from the proper channels on the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Councillor Emlyn Dole said following advice from official sources including Carmarthenshire County Council is critical in helping to reduce the transmission of the outbreak and to avoid misinformation.

A tactical command group already set up by Carmarthenshire County Council is implementing contingency plans and taking special measures to help protect residents with some measures already implemented. These include restricting visits to our residential care homes, suspending day centre services, and asking head teachers to rearrange events that would involve large gatherings of pupils, parents and guests.

Continuous updates are being made available on the council’s website and social media feeds to keep communities informed about disruptions to council-run services.

The council continues to take advice and direction from Public Health Wales and Welsh Government, and is working with multi-agency partners to prepare for what may be a lengthy period of disruption.

Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “We continue to take advice from Public Health Wales and Welsh Government relating to all services and want to reassure residents that we have a strong team of officers working together to prepare and respond to what is a unique and evolving situation. It is important that all residents take advice on Coronavirus (COVID-19) from the official sources as the outbreak branches further out into our communities, I cannot emphasise this enough. Misinformation can cause widespread anxiety and unnecessary disruption during these difficult times. Please be assured that we are taking all necessary precautions to limit the spread.”
