A driver from Penygroes who tried to avoid speeding tickets by altering her car registration number with tape was told today she was facing a prison sentence.
Linda Annette Jenkins, aged 58, appeared before Judge Paul Thomas at Swansea crown court for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
Jenkins, of Gate Road, admitted doing an act on October 18 last year that had a tendency to pervert the course of justice, namely altering the appearance of her car’s registration plates.
The court heard that if she received any more points on her licence she would be banned as a “totter.”
Jenkins’ barrister, Dyfed Thomas, said she understood a prison sentence would follow but the court could consider suspending it.
Judge Thomas said it was a bizarre attempt to avoid speeding points.
“An alternative would have been to drive within the speed limits,” he added.
Judge Thomas said he wanted to ban her from driving immediately. But on being told she had driven to court he said he would allow her to get home and an interim driving ban would come into force at 1pm.
“When you get home, put the car away and for a long time,” he told Jenkins.
She will be sentenced towards the end of March after a probation officer has prepared a report into her background.
