SHOPPERS worried about coronavirus have stripped supermarket shelves of hand sanitiser across Swindon.
One Dorcan Morrisons staff member said: “We’ve completely sold out. There’s usually some at the tills but they’ve gone too.
“I think that when the coronavirus outbreak hit the UK, people started panicking a bit and rushed to buy hand sanitiser.”
The Adver spotted similar sell-outs while visiting other supermarkets around the town, including Tesco Express on Ocotal Way.
The first case of coronavirus was confirmed in Wales yesterday and two more were identified in England, bringing the total number of cases in the UK to 19.
The Wales patient returned from a trip to northern Italy while the two English people contracted the virus in Iran.
The first case in Northern Ireland was confirmed on Thursday.
Dr Frank Atherton said: “I can confirm that one patient in Wales has tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19).
“All appropriate measures to provide care for the individual and to reduce the risk of transmission to others are being taken. I’d like to take this opportunity to assure the public that Wales and the whole of the UK is well prepared for these types of incidents.”
