Garnant rescue centre receives fundraising cash boost

A grateful team of staff, volunteers and fundraisers from Greyhound Rescue Wales collected the cheque for £1,101 earlier this month.

The money was raised by staff and customers at the Llanelli store in their Santa Paws appeal.

Hannah Palmer, team member said: “It’s been brilliant having the dogs come to the store and showing people how lovely greyhounds are and what great pets they make.

"It was great how GRW entered into the Christmas spirit with the dogs dressed up and they even brought their own special Santa.”

The Pets at Home stores nationwide raised an amazing total of £1,909, 837 from the Santa Paws appeal.

Abbie Conway, Manager of the Hillcrest Rehoming Centre in Garnant, said: “It’s wonderful to have the support from Pets At Home Llanelli, and it really makes a huge difference to the dogs in our care.

"We can give them extra treats and toys for their enrichment while they stay in the kennels waiting to go to their forever homes. We have a special enrichment hut where the dogs learn about new situations and experiences, and we will be able to keep it well stocked in the coming months. It also gives the hounds a place to stay warm and safe in the winter months when the weather makes it difficult to be out and about. We love coming here, we get such a warm welcome from the staff and the customers, Milo gets so excited when he puts his collecting jacket on.”

Val Ball, GRW Trustee responsible for Fundraising commented: “Pets At Home Llanelli expressed interest in working with GRW during 2019, and GRW became their charity of the year. Their interest in the charity has been wonderful to see, they have come to the Rehoming Centre in Garnant to meet the dogs and the staff who work there.

"When we come for our monthly collections, the staff are always keen to know how their favourite dogs are doing and who will be going to their forever homes.”
