WEM Town took a large step towards safety last week after they beat relegation rivals Cradley Town in the West Midlands Regional League.

Playing at The Beeches in Cradley last Tuesday, Wem were in fine form, beating their hosts 5-1.

A James Griffiths hat-trick and two from William Lygo helped the visitors claim all three points.

The result means Wem are still 16th in the table, still some way off being safe.

But Wem is in the unenviable position of having played several more games than their rivals.

Cradley Town may be seven points behind Wem, but they also have three games in hand. And even more dramatically, bottom side Dudley Sports sit nine points behind Wem, but have five games in hand.

This weekend Wem will hope to continue their recent good form as they Bilston Town at home.

The visitors currently sit in fifth place and are on 40 points after 24 games, so will present a tough challenge for Wem.

But Bilston have a questionable defence, so if Wem carry last Tuesday’s performance through their good form could continue.

The game will take place at the Butler Sports Centre, in Bowensfield, Wem on Saturday, February 22.

Kick-off at 3pm.
