THE CHAIR of Carmarthenshire county council will take the plunge in a re-scheduled sea dip this Friday, February 14.

Councillor Kevin Madge was due to take part in the Walrus Dip on Boxing day to raise money for the local food banks, but due to ill-health he was unable to go into the water on the day.

Cllr Madge will now be doing the 'dip' on Friday, February 14 at 10am.

He said: "Although I was present to start the annual Walrus Dip at Cefn Sidan Beach on Boxing Day, my intention was also to take part. Unfortunately, I was unwell on the day, and was advised not to go in to the sea.

"Having been sponsored to do so for my charities this year - Ammanford, Carmarthen and Llanelli Food Banks - I was determined that I should ‘dip’ into the water, therefore I have arranged with Pembrey Country Park staff to take the plunge on Friday, February 14, at 10am. I am going to call it the ‘Valentine Dip’.

"I would like to take the opportunity to thank friends, family and fellow Councillors who did sponsor me, as well as the following Town and Community Councils: Llandybie, Trimsaran, Trelech a’r Betws, Cwmaman, Bronwydd, Llanelli Rural Council, Llanllawddog, Llangyndeyrn, Llanddeusant, Llandyfaelog, Cilymaenllwyd, Pendine, Llanfihangel Aberbythych, St Clears, Llanllwni, Manordeilo & Salem, Llangennech, Llandeilo and Llangunnor."
